Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan yojana is a financial inclusion programme of the government of India.
PMJDY programme was launched by the prime minister of India Shri Narender Modi on 28th of August 2014. However, Prime minister announced about the pradhan mantri jhan yojana programme in his first independence day speech on 14th of august 2014.
Aim of PMJDY
The government of India launched this programme to ensure that all the citizens of India have access to banking services like deposit accounts, saving accounts, remittance services, credit services, insurance, pension etc. This programme aims to ensure a bank account for every citizen of India
The day when the programme was launched by Prime minister of India, more than 1.5 crore accounts were opened on single day and till the date of writing this article more than 39 crore accounts have been opened under this scheme.

Special benefits under PMJDY scheme
No minimum balance is required to open account under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. But if someone apply for cheque book than he needs to maintain the minimum account balance
Interest on Saving Deposits will be provided
Accidental Insurance cover will be provided to all the Jan dhan account holders
If account holder maintain account adequately than a overdraft facility of 10,000 will be provided after six months
subsidy by government or any account remittance by government will be directly transferred to this jan dhan account
Rupay debit card will be given to jan dhan account holders
Mobile banking facilities are also provided under this programme so than the account holder can easily check the bank balance and can transfer money across India easily.
Pradhan Mantri jan Dhan yojana programme is world’s biggest financial inclusion programme. On date of launch more than 1.5 crore bank accounts were opened which is a Guinness world record.
But in rural India where most of population depends on agriculture activities they don’t have easy access to banking system.
Government of India has also taken initiative in this regard by launching programme of “Bank Mitra”. who went to this rural areas and provide door step banking facilities. But more initiatives like this are still required in banking structure and more strong banking structure need to be made in country like India.
